Take Care of Your Scalp This Summer with These Quick Tips

Now that summer is here; you may notice your scalp is suffering more than usual. This sun is not playing and can cause all sorts of problems, from dandruff and increased itchiness to hair loss. To keep your scalp healthy and your hair looking its best, check out these tips.

1 - Choose Sulfate-Free Shampoo

Avoid harsh shampoo and conditioner. Harsh ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate can be drying, irritating and really bad for your scalp. Sulfates give you that squeaky clean feel but it's stripping your scalp and hair of needed oils and moisture. Our Glorious Growth Cleansing Cream will always be sulfate-free.

2 - Get a Scalp Massage

Scalp massages are a great way to keep your scalp healthy and improve circulation to your hair follicles. Here's how to do one:

  • Apply a few drops of our Glorious Growth Hair and Scalp Oil to your fingertips.
  • Use your fingertips to apply light pressure to your scalp.
  • Move your fingers in a downward motion and repeat this motion a few times.
  • Next, apply pressure to your scalp in an upward motion and repeat the motion a few times.
  • Finally, apply pressure on the left, right and back sides of your head and repeat the motion a few times.

3 - Eat Healthy Foods

The food you eat can have a positive impact on your hair and scalp. Eat foods high in zinc like fish, dark green leafy vegetables, nuts, and beans. These foods contain nutrients that are good for both your hair and your scalp.

You should also get enough iron from your diet. Iron helps your hair and scalp stay strong and healthy. To get enough iron, eat plenty of iron-rich foods like lean red meat, poultry, and dark green leafy vegetables. Our Glorious Hair Gummies are a great addition to help supplement hair & scalp lovin nutrients.

4 - Avoid Smoking

You probably know smoking cigarettes isn't great for your health. But did you know that smoking can damage your hair and scalp? Smoking causes your blood vessels to narrow, which hurts the blood supply to your hair. Remember your hair follicles receives nutrients it needs from your blood (💡that's why scalp massages are helpful)  If you smoke, you are cutting off oxygen to your scalp because your blood vessels constrict.

5 - Stay Hydrated

Our bodies need to stay hydrated to stay healthy. The same is true for your hair and scalp. During the hot summer months, it's easy to get dehydrated, which can lead to hair loss, dry hair, and dandruff.

Try adding water to your daily routine. First thing in the morning drink a glass of water. If it helps sit it by your bedside at night. Throughout the day set a goal to drink a glass of water every hour or so depending on your health requirements. If you're feeling really thirsty and want something extra, try adding a few slices of lemon or oranges to your water to spice it up.
